A little bit as I expected…
This day I’ve discovered the South African music. U guys know that I mentioned that I thought that the African music would be rhythmics to drums and some music actually is that. But as same as in Sweden they listen to a mix of music. But they do actually have some typical music styles. For example like the Swedish schlager. Kwaito is one African music style that they play today. It reminds me on the house beats, but it’s slower. It has the African drum rhythmic and a deep screaming/singing voice. It’s also music that is connected with the freedom from Apartheid. I think that is powerful when music actually means something and tells u something. Then they have the classic drums that I had expected. I actually enjoy the South African music. It’s deep, has a mystic message and tells something. My host family have told me that South African music preformed live always bring happiness and show coherence.
I also hit a Swedish stereotype that my host family had about us Swedes. They said that “U Swedes only listen to Swedish fairytale music”. But when I showed them the music on my mobile they actually changed their minds. They realized that we listen to different kind of music from USA and the big part of Europe

All we listen is from USA and Europe, hehe. I thought that the Indian people only listen to Bollywood music in and I had so wrong. They actually listen to real music as well. Of course they listen to Indian music most of the time, but it is still not the kind I thought it would be. It is kind like Africa, their songs are about a story and it is really deep.
I have also always thought that African music is all made of drums. I was a little surprise when you said they listen to a mix of music like we do in Sweden!
The music in England is not as cultural. They listen to music from the USA and Europe, just as India as I learned from Agnes comment.
You say there's a lot of feeling in the music, that it tells something. England listen to a lot of punk, most bands from their own country actually. There are a many punkbands from England. And these bands often sang about stuff that no one else dared bring up, the songs had a message, they told something. So, in that way the music of South Africa and the music of England are a little bit alike. That's the only thing they have in common I think.
Hope you're having a good time over there!
Greetings from England
Haha, I also thought the same as ypu did about drums. Just like in the United States they listen to a mix of all kinds of music. But they also have typical African music, and I don’t think that kind of music exists anywhere else. But I don’t know. I think that every country has its own kind of music that is typical for the country.
